MyPillow Pillows

BEST PILLOWS

MyPillow offers four different types of pillow – MyPillow Premium, MyPillow Giza Elegance, Premium Platinum MyPillow and MyPillow Supima Pillows. They are all filled with the same materials, but you can adjust the amount of fill by customising the level of loft and support you want.

Overview

The cover fabric with each model is made of 100% cotton, providing a light and soft feeling. As for the filling, this is made of 100% polyurethane foam. The qualities of this material makes the pillows easy to fold, malleable and simple to fluff up. The polyfoam has been shredded, which makes the pillow more breathable and easy to adjust. Overall, the feel of polyfoam is fluffy and cushiony, reminiscent of the feeling found in mattress toppers or actual cushions.

Firmness and Support

Due to the customisation available with each pillow purchase, the feeling and support of each one will be different. However, as a general rule, the less fill a pillow contains, the softer and flatter it will be. That being said, the pillows do have some similarities. For example, the cover fabric used is light and airy. A bonus is that it’s not too noisy, and won’t make the crinkly sound you expect with other pillows when you press into it or move it around during the night. While you can’t adjust the loft of the pillow yourself, it’s still easy to move around the polyfoam filling, so shaping this pillow shouldn’t be a problem.

When pressing into this pillow, you will experience a quick response, making it easy for combo sleepers to switch positions at night. It can also be smoothed out to evenly distribute the polyfoam fill. One care measure which users may not know about is that putting the pillow through a tumble dryer cycle before using it for the first time can be beneficial, as this makes the polyfoam easier to fluff and prevents it from lumping together.

The adjustments which can be made to the Mypillow range before purchase are color coded. There’s yellow, white, green and blue. As you increase the amount of fill in the pillow, the ability to shape it will go down and you will experience a higher level of firmness and support. The yellow and white pillows offer a soft feel, while the green is a medium level on the firmness spectrum and the blue is medium-firm.

Wondering which type of fill is best suited for you? If you’re a stomach sleeper, you will benefit the most from a yellow or white pillow, as this will have a softer and flatter shape due to the fill level. If you sleep on your back or side, you will most likely get the most out of the thicker feel provided by the green and blue pillows.

If you’re looking for a memory foam feel with these pillows, you won’t get it – there is a varying level of loft and support, but this doesn’t result in the soft sinkage you would get with this material. Instead, you can expect a fluffy and cushiony support. To enhance this feeling, the polyfoam inside every Mypillow has been shredded. If your pillow starts to feel too flat for your liking, you can put it in your dryer for 10 to 15 minutes in order to get its fluffiness back.

Materials and Down Quality

You’ll benefit from soft, breathable pure cotton on the covers of each Mypillow. You won’t experience a crinkling noise or sensation when you’re resting on this pillow at night. You can also choose from a range of designs and colors in order to have your new pillow coordinate with your bedroom’s color scheme.

If you travel a lot, or simply like to travel in comfort, the Roll & GoAnywhere Mypillow is a smaller version of the Mypillow. If you place it on top of a standard pillow, you will be able to make the most of the benefits a Mypillow is capable of providing to its users. This model also comes in a range of colors and designs.

The filling found with the Mypillow is a polyurethane foam which can easily be moulded into the shape of your choosing, or folded. This foam is similar to that you would see in a standard memory foam pillow, but it isn’t a chunk of material. Instead, it’s pieces of shredded foam. As a result, the pillow is easy to fluff up and will feel bouncier. It also won’t return to its rectangular shape as a default, making it highly customisable.

Comfort Guarantee

To look after your Mypillow, it’s recommended that you wash it every four months, even if you believe it’s clean. If you suffer from allergies, you can increase this frequency to either every two months or as often as you need to. The 10 year warranty which comes with this product covers laundering of the pillow.

When you put the pillow through a machine wash, ensure it’s with cold or warm water on a regular cycle, and don’t set it to wash delicates. You can use any detergent, but don’t use fabric softener. To reduce the drying time, it’s advised to use additional spin cycles. If you have a top loading washing machine, put two pillows in the washer to balance it out – and if you only have one pillow, use towels to balance it out. Those with front loading machines should wash their pillows along with a full load of laundry. When it comes to drying, you can put the pillow through a tumble dryer cycle on high heat. Don’t use dryer balls or fabric softener, but also don’t worry about the possibility of over-drying, as this won’t be possible.

There is a 60 day money back guarantee in place with the Mypillow. The company asserts that your product will be the most comfortable pillow you have ever owned, or you’ll get your money back. If you want to return the product for any reason within 60 days from the date you receive the order, you can do so for a full refund (excepting shipping costs). Refunds are processed within the 30 days following receipt of the returned product.

Warranty

All Mypillow products come with a 10 year warranty, which applies to material or workmanship defects. The warranty states that Mypillow will provide a product which is of equal or higher value as a replacement if the original is deemed to be defective, and they will cover the shipping charges.

Key Features
  • High level of customisation available – There are many different fill levels to choose from, and the effect you receive from these types of fill mean that each pillow is unique to the user.
  • Personalised experience – Customers can purchase a product which caters specifically to their sleeping position and body type.
  • Money back guarantee – It can be stressful to make an investment in a product you haven’t tried yet, as it will be difficult to return it and get a refund if you don’t like it. However, Mypillow have made this process simple by offering all customers a 60 day money back guarantee. If you’re trying out your custom pillow for the first time and find that it isn’t perfect for you, it’s simply a case of sending the product back and being refunded once it’s received.
  • Easy to maintain – For people who don’t want to spend too much time caring for and maintaining a pillow, the Mypillow is an ideal choice. Usually, standard pillows would need to be dry cleaned, but with the Mypillow, you can run it through the washing machine. If you want to know how to set up your washing machine for the product, there will be a complete set of washing instructions provided with the purchase.
Complaints
  • Possibility of clumping – The filling found in the Mypillow resembles that found in standard memory foam pillows. That being said, the polyfoam in this product is shredded, making it easier to shape the pillow. You can also easily fold it, so you can adapt it to make your night of sleep as comfortable as possible. However, this filling can clump in certain areas, leaving you sleeping on a bumpy pillow.
  • Can’t customise the fill yourself – There are four different fill categories available with Mypillow, but you need to choose one of these instead of being able to adjust it yourself. As there is no zipper with this pillow, you will have to find the one that’s closest to what you want instead of the perfect fit.
  • Can’t be used right away – When the Mypillow arrives, it’s packaged in vacuum sealed materials, and once you’ve pulled it out, you will need to place it in a tumble dryer for 15 minutes on high heat. Otherwise, you won’t be able to use it.
  • Blue fill isn’t very cooling – Those who tend to sleep hot may not have the best results with the Mypillow. Although the company states that their pillows have cooling effects, you’re more likely to benefit from this with the lesser filled choices – in other words, the yellow and white options. With the firmer filling choices – especially the blue one – there will be a fair amount of heat trapped in around the tightly packed polyfoam filling. If you lie in the same place on your pillow each night, you may well find that you overheat and end up tossing and turning, which will lead to a less comfortable and restful night of sleep.
Comparison

Before making a pillow purchase, it can be helpful to compare top brands in the market to ensure you’re choosing the right option for your needs. One brand which is often compared with Mypillow is Purple, and this makes sense, as both companies adopt a unique and innovative approach to creating pillows for their customers. While Mypillow allows users to adjust the fill level of their products, the Purple features a unique grid which collapses in the right places to support the head, neck and shoulders.

The main difference between Mypillow and Purple pillow products is the materials they use. While the Mypillow uses a cotton cover and polyurethane foam as the filling, the Purple pillow uses patented Hyper-Elastic Polymer. This soft and rubbery material adjusts to the shape of your head while providing the firm support you need. It’s good for those who stay in one position during the night, as this material is quite heavy, but it won’t work as well for combo sleepers.

The Purple pillow has a longer trial period than the Mypillow. With the Purple pillow, you can try the product out for 100 days. If you aren’t happy with it, you will be given a 100% refund and the company will pay for your return shipping costs. Meanwhile, the Mypillow offers a 60 day trial period, where you can return it if you find it doesn’t meet your comfort needs. While the company will give you a full refund, you will be responsible for paying for the shipping costs. However, the Mypillow comes out on top in terms of the warranty, as it has a 10 year agreement in place which applies to material and workmanship defects associated with its products. Meanwhile, the Purple pillow comes with a 100 day limited warranty.

Types of Sleeper vs Mypillow Fill
  • Stomach sleepers: Yellow fill – If you tend to spend your nights sleeping on your stomach, you will need a soft and flat pillow. This means that the yellow fill option available on the Mypillow site will best suit your preferences. You will be able to lie down completely flat with this pillow, but your spine will still receive adequate support, reducing the chances of waking up with back pain. The yellow fill option is also the most malleable, folding easily to the shape you desire to create the most comfortable pillow possible. Furthermore, as the yellow fill option is very light, you are unlikely to suffer from a cramp or numbness. This is because your body weight will be evenly distributed across the pillow, so there will be less chance of pain if you tend to grab your pillow from underneath during stomach sleep.
  • Stomach and back sleepers: White fill – Those who want additional loft and support will benefit from the white fill. It’s similar to the yellow fill, but has more structure to it so that people can sleep with more elevation on their stomachs or backs. There is a medium fill with this option compared to the yellow fill, and you will receive added elevation around the neck area so you aren’t lying completely flat on the bed. In addition, you will be able to maintain a good posture for your sleeping position. Those who sleep on their backs will be able to experience better breathing during the night with this filling, and it’s still a light option with an overall firm feeling.
  • Side sleepers and heavier people: Green fill – Heading into the firmer fill types, the green fill is suitable for those who sleep on their side or are of a heavier weight. This is because they will receive a high level of support around the neck area. You will still get a fluffy feel which is the signature of the Mypillow, but this is a firmer fill than the yellow and white variants. It’s more reminiscent of a memory foam pillow, and the pressure relief is evenly distributed, ensuring your neck aligns with your spine to prevent soreness when you wake up. The shredded polyfoam within the Mypillow is particularly beneficial with this fill level, as it will adjust itself to cradle your sleeping position, giving you the support you need.
  • Back and side sleepers: Blue fill – This is the firmest fill level out of all the available variants. It features tightly packed polyfoam and is less moldable than the yellow, white and green options. However, it offers more support to those who tend to sleep on their backs or sides. You’ll find that your head is propped up in such a way that it provides optimal pressure relief around the shoulder area. Those who are of a heavier build and also sleep on their side will typically find that this fill level is beneficial for them. That being said, users should be aware that the tighter fill in both the green and blue fill levels will often trap more heat, so this won’t be ideal for hot sleepers and will most likely mean the pillow will require flipping over during the night.
Verdict

The Mypillow offers an innovative and customisable design for customers whereby they can choose a fill level and firmness option which suits their personal needs. The pillows tend to sleep cool, although this isn’t the case with some fill levels. There is a decent warranty and trial period available, and the material is breathable. Furthermore, the pillow is machine washable, making it easy to keep this product feeling clean and fresh. If you want a customisable and malleable pillow which can be washed and dried with ease, the Mypillow is well worth considering.

Pros

  • Several firmness options on offer
