Renasant Bank began life in 1904 as a $100,000 bank in Lee County, Mississippi. It has since grown into one of the Southeast’s strongest financial institutions and has roughly $12.7 billion in assets and more than 190 banking, lending, wealth management, and financial services offices in Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia and Florida. The bank offers a large range of services including personal checking accounts, loans, mortgages, insurance and so on.

A major advantage of banking with Renasant Bank is that they do not refer to ChexSystems and there is no credit check before opening an account. ChexSystems is a credit reporting and check verification agency and they list people for any type of banking infringement, from the trivial to the serious criminal. Those on the list will have problems opening accounts at banks that refer to ChexSystems, so this issue can be avoided by banking with Renasant Bank. Importantly, you will also be able to open an account if you have a bad credit history.

Account Features and Fees

Renasant Bank offers three main types of bank account, the Renasant Checking, the Rewards Checking, and the Rewards Extra. These all come with a variety of services and one of them is sure to offer the services you need.

All three bank accounts come with the Anywhere Banking Tools and these tools make up the entire Renasant Checking account. These include Online Banking, a Mobile Banking App with Mobile Check Deposit, Bill Pay, MasterCard Debit Card, and Renasant’s Mobile Wallet (Zelle, Apple Pay, Apple Pay Cash, Google Pay). The account has no monthly maintenance fee if you select e-statements or have a daily account balance of $500 or more; otherwise, there is an $8.00 monthly fee.

The Rewards Checking Account brings with it the chance to earn interest on your checking balance and ATM fee refunds. They will reward you with high-interest rates and up to $25 in ATM fee refunds if you receive your monthly statements electronically, have at least 10 debit transactions post and clear, and have at least one direct deposit or automatic payment post and clear. The account has the same terms as the Renasant Checking account.

The Rewards Extra Account comes with a number of additional features including discounts at local and national retailers, cellphone protection, ID theft cover, roadside assistance, travel insurance, and more. The account costs just $6 per month.

There is also a Student Checking account that is available for those aged 16 to 25 and it offers the same features as the Rewards Checking account.
