The Samsung RS25J500DSR/AA side-by-side refrigerator is one of the best mid-sized, energy-efficient refrigerators you can buy, and it includes all the features you would expect in a much more expensive appliance.
We highly recommend the Samsung RS25J500DSR/AA, as it includes some of the most convenient and energy-saving features available and does so at a practically unbeatable price. A mid-sized side-by-side refrigerator, the Samsung boasts 24.5 cubic feet of refrigerator storage space and 15.7 cubic feet of freezer storage space. While this is average for a mid-sized fridge, the layout and organization of the shelves and bins will allow you to utilize this space effectively and conveniently.
The fridge comes in three attractive exterior colors: stainless steel, black, and white, so you’ll certainly be able to find a color that fits in well with your kitchen’s current décor and color schemes. What’s more, the side-by-side design will save you some kitchen space as well.
Of course, you’ll have to decide whether you prefer the side-by-side design of this refrigerator over your other option: French doors. A French door refrigerator has two refrigerator doors that both swing out away from each other, as well as a large freezer drawer. Conversely, a side-by-side has, as the name suggests, a fridge door side-by-side with a freezer door. Both have their pros and cons, but benefit of the side-by-side design is greater visibility with the freezer. On the other hand, a French door style refrigerator usually comes with much more freezer space. So, if you don’t have a stand-alone freezer and don’t intend to get one, a French door style fridge might be a better option for you.
For its very affordable price point, this Samsung side-by-side packs in no shortage of excellent features and modern conveniences. For starters, the refrigerator portion of the Samsung features four shelves, some of which are adjustable and some slide out. It also includes four door bins, some of which can easily accommodate full gallon containers and are adjustable. Finally, it has a convenient dairy compartment to keep things like butter and cheese from odor cross-contamination with other foods. As for the freezer side, the Samsung offers four shelves and three adjustable bins. Also, there are extra drawers under the freezer shelves for even more storage space.
But it’s really the additional features that make the Samsung side-by-side stand out from the pack. One of our favorites among the features of this fridge is its unique quick cool and quick freeze settings. These settings will drop the temperature of your fridge and/or freezer quickly to promptly cool foods in the event of a power outage or simply saving melted ice cream! This is truly an unexpected and innovative feature for what is, ostensibly, more of a budget refrigerator.
The Samsung also features a fairly standard water and ice dispenser, which is a nice plus. Even better, though, the dispenser has an optional child lock to prevent curious hands from making unexpected messes. Speaking of unexpected messes, this refrigerator also features a door alarm that will go off whenever one or more of the refrigerator doors are left open for too long. This simply adds to the energy-efficient qualities of this fridge and will prevent accidental food spoilage and waste.
In fact, the only real detractor we could find with this excellent product was its lack of a deli drawer. However, this should be of little concern as one of the crisper drawers could easily be used as a deli drawer. Surely, this is a minuscule price to pay when you are getting so many other outstanding features at such an affordable price.
Of course, if energy-efficiency is your top concern, this refrigerator is still a great option. The Samsung fridge is Energy Star compliant—meaning that it is at least 9 percent more energy-efficient than required by industry standards. That kind of energy-efficiency and eco-friendliness is a major advantage for a refrigerator listed at this price point, making the Samsung truly an excellent value for the money.
It is estimated that the cost of running this refrigerator will only cost you about $83 per year (or, $6.90 per month)! That’s the kind of savings that an energy-efficient appliance will get you.
If you’re looking for a truly energy-efficient refrigerator with plenty of extra features at a price point that won’t break the bank, this Samsung side-by-side is definitely a great place to start. With its relatively large storage space—especially for the freezer side—and its Energy Star rating, that alone should be enough to justify its affordable asking price. But this Samsung overachieves. It also features things like a child lock, a door alarm, and the quick fool and quick freeze settings, all of which together could justify a much higher price point. Add to all this the sleek, attractive design and color options, and you can be sure you’re getting a real bargain with this appliance.
As for warranties, the Samsung RS25J500DSR/AA comes with fairly standard industry guarantees. That is, Samsung offers a one-year warranty for parts and labor and a six-year warranty on its sealed system. One thing we really loved, though, was the online chat option for customer service. If you’re a bit phone-shy, this will definitely be a major advantage for you.
Ultimately, we just think this is a truly economical option. Not only is the upfront cost so competitive, but the long-term savings you’ll have through its energy-efficiency will make this a solid investment sure to pay dividends in the long-run. You’re unlikely to find another refrigerator at this excellent and competitive price point that packs in so many great features in a spacious, energy-efficient design. So, if you want a side-by-side fridge with plenty of bells and whistles, you could definitely do a lot worse than this excellent appliance.
