The LG LSXS26336S boasts the largest capacity of the refrigerators we’ve evaluated. It leaves something to be desired with regard to extra features, but the storage space is ideal for large households.
If you have a large family, then the LG LSXS26336S is probably one of the best side-by-side refrigerators for your needs. It’s considerably larger in terms of storage space than other models we’ve evaluated, boasting an impressive 26.2 cubic feet of interior space. While this refrigerator doesn’t include many additional features beyond the ones you would expect from any side-by-side, the features it does offer will help with organization and usability. For instance, the customizable slide-out shelves will allow you to organize and access all of your groceries with ease.
The refrigerator side compartment includes four slide-out shelves, four door bins, and two storage drawers. One downside in this regard, though, is that neither of the drawers are humidity-controlled crispers. This seems like something of an oversight for LG, as most people like to be able to keep their fruits and veggies fresh and crisp in such drawers. Still, this is a minor qualm for an otherwise excellent appliance.
Of course, you’ll have to decide whether you prefer the side-by-side design of this refrigerator over your other option: French doors. A French door refrigerator has two refrigerator doors that both swing out away from each other, as well as a large freezer drawer. Conversely, a side-by-side has, as the name suggests, a fridge door side-by-side with a freezer door. Both have their pros and cons, but benefit of the side-by-side design is greater visibility with the freezer. On the other hand, a French door style refrigerator usually comes with much more freezer space. So, if you don’t have a stand-alone freezer and don’t intend to get one, a French door style fridge might be a better option for you.
As we’ve mentioned above, this LG refrigerator is somewhat lacking in extra features, but the ones it does offer are particularly useful. For instance, we found it to be incredibly customizable with its slide-out shelves. Not only do these shelves slide out for easy viewing and reaching of even the furthest foods back in your fridge, but they are also adjustable. That means you can switch them up to accommodate shorter or taller items.
This ability to customize just adds to the great storage capacity of the LG. One of the largest refrigerator spaces we’ve come across, the LG offers 17 cubic feet of storage space! The freezer side, though not as spacious as some other options we’ve looked at, still manages to offer 9.45 cubic feet of storage space.
Like most side-by-sides, the LG also includes a water and ice dispenser on the freezer door. The dispenser conveniently includes a child lock to prevent the little one from starting a water park in your kitchen when you’re not around.
Another great feature that seems to be quite common for side-by-sides these days is the door alarm that alerts you when either or both of the refrigerator and freezer doors are left open longer than a specified span of time. You can customize this time span, too—another great customization tool with this LG!
As for warranties, the LG offers the standard fare in this regard. That is, LG offers a one-year parts and labor warranty and a five-year sealed system warranty. One area where the LG has an edge over the competition when it comes to warranties, though, is its ten-year linear compressor insurance.
But what is a linear compressor, anyway? And what benefit does this feature have for you? LG has explained that the linear compressor technology produces a more “streamlined” operation of the fridge, mechanically. That is, the linear compressor circulates the refrigerant more effectively and efficiently. It would appear that this greater efficiency with refrigerant circulation is one of the ways the LG side-by-side is able to produce such excellent energy-efficiency ratings. In fact, you can expect to spend a tiny $73 per year on energy costs to run this refrigerator constantly. Compared to energy costs in the mid $80s for most other energy-efficient side-by-sides, this is a major advantage for such a large and spacious refrigerator.
It’s not just the refrigerator itself that makes the LG a great option, though. We also really appreciated the great customer service options available to connect with very helpful and knowledgeable representatives. If you ever have any issues with your LG side-by-side, you can contact LG directly via telephone, email, or (our favorite option for our shier readers) live online chat. Further, the LG website and included user guides were incredibly clear and helpful when addressing our various questions.
Our favorite aspect of this impressive and large side-by-side refrigerator is that it is Energy Star compliant. There aren’t many side-by-sides that manage this level of energy-efficiency and eco-friendliness, which makes it all the more impressive when you consider just how much larger this refrigerator is compared to other Energy Star certified refrigerators.
If you have a large family, or simply keep a lot of different foods on hand at all times, and you want an energy-efficient refrigerator with lots of storage space, you’ll have a hard time finding a better all-around option than the LG LSXS26336S.
This LG doesn’t offer all the bells and whistles that some other side-by-sides do, but the features it does include are well thought-out, intuitive, and convenient. Everything from the door alarm, to the child lock on the ice and water dispenser, to the adjustable slide-out shelves makes this LG refrigerator the best option for large families or those who entertain a lot of guests on a regular basis.
