Maytag MFI2570FEZ French Door Refrigerators

BEST FRENCH DOOR REFRIGERATORS

The Maytag MFI2570FEZ works very well and has some serious power for chilling down lots of large items quickly. The main draw here is the PowerCold feature, which allows you to temporarily lower the temperature of the fridge or freezer to cool things down in a hurry.

When it comes to French door refrigerators, there are a lot of different aspects of the product to consider before making a purchase. The Maytag MFI2570FEZ is an interesting package. It skimps on some key areas, like storage and warranty length, but makes up for them with some interesting features.

Deciding whether or not this is the right fridge for you will depend a lot on what it is you hope to get out of your appliance. For storing all your groceries and easily accessing everything you have, this fridge will do a great job. However, there are real questions about whether or not every item you pick up will be able to fit comfortably in your unit, and the layout of the freezer is not exactly ideal.

There is a lot to like here but there are also questions that you should ask before picking up the Maytag MFI2570FEZ. Let’s take a look at some of the features and the issues that you’ll want to watch out for.

Features of the Maytag MFI2570FEZ french door refrigerator

The layout of the top part of the Maytag MFI2570FEZ is different than what you’ll find in other models. This product does have plenty of the standard features from other French door fridges, though.

There is plenty of storage in both the top doors, including bins large enough to hold gallon-sized containers on both sides. There are also several shelves which can be slid in and out of place to make room for tall or awkwardly shaped items.

The fridge contains two crisper drawers side-by-side. Each of these can be adjusted to allow different amounts of moisture into the produce section.

Below the crisper drawers is a full-width section which is perfect for holding cold-cuts or cheeses. You can also use this section to hold a whole party platter, which can be great if you’re entertaining.

The main issue with the storage space is that there isn’t very much of it. This unit will hold only about 18 cubic feet of space, which is on the smaller size for a fridge of this type.

Ice dispenser

There is a lot to like about the ice dispensing system. It fits in the door and offers crushed ice, cubed ice, and filtered water. The dispenser will hold about 3 lbs of ice when full, which is on the high side for a French door refrigerator.

On the other hand, the ice dispenser only works because Maytag has taken up a big chunk of their space in the fridge with the ice storage itself. This is a bit awkward, as it prevents certain tall items from being placed on the left side of the fridge at all.

The decision was clearly made in order to allow for more in-door storage on that side of the fridge, but it’ll be up to you to decide if the tradeoff was worth it.

Freezer

Storage in the freezer is also a bit tight, with only 6.7 cubic feet of space. The design is pretty standard, with a door that slides forward to reveal two levels of storage bins.

The bottom bin is angled in the back, which makes storing certain items a bit difficult. It’s also quite tall, which means it’s easy for things to get buried on the bottom of this container.

The top bin is subdivided into two side-by-side containers, and that division can not be removed. I can see where this would come in handy in certain situations, but this kind of layout makes it difficult to store things flexibly.

PowerCold system

This option does do exactly what it purports to do: lower the temperature of the entire fridge or freezer for a short amount of time before returning back to normal. If you find yourself in a situation where you’d like to chill down food quickly, this is a really good feature to have.

The most common time when you’ll see this come up is when you’ve got a lot of hot or warm food that needs to go into storage. So if you find yourself entertaining or cooking for large groups of people often, this might be a good direction to go.

Warranty

The warranty for this fridge is a bit on the skimpy side. It’ll cover everything for the first year, parts and labor included. After that, the compressor itself is covered for another 10 years, but no other parts of the unit are covered. This is a bit below the industry standard and should be taken into account when considering this product.

Conclusion

There is a lot to like about the Maytag MFI2570FEZ. The PowerCold system can really come in handy if you want to cool things off in a hurry, and the water and ice dispenser really work great. Maytag is a trusted brand in this market and you can be sure that this product will keep all your items clean and fresh for years to come.

With that in mind, it’s worth noting that there are other fridges that will give you more storage space both in the fridge and freezer sections. Depending on how much space you need, and how often you’ll need to turnover the items you store, this system might not be ideal. The price puts it in the middle of the pack for French door refrigerators, so if you like the design and you think the PowerCold feature is something you’ll use often, then take a look at the Maytag MFI2570FEZ.
