What started out as a side project has now become one of the leading focus points of The Rocket Science Group – MailChimp is here to keep us in the clear.

Being a cloud-based email management service, MailChimp has rapidly gained popularity since its launch in 2001. The program can be both funny and engaging while maintaining serious marketing features to keep us ahead of the competition. The ESP scene has rarely seen such a powerful service, and it can even come with a free option. Why is by far, the best we have encountered. Going over to paid subscriptions, we have auto-responding tools, spam diagnostics, time zone list segmentation, and an array of social network integration tools. MailChimp has a user base of over six million customers – and some of them are quite recognizable (TED, the Economist, Vice UK). With this in mind, the software doesn’t seem to have a problem in handing more than five billion emails per month. If this isn’t a promise towards amazing services, we don’t know what is!

Pricing
Free Plan

For smaller and newer businesses, the Free MailChimp plan has more than it takes to cover our needs. Up to 2,000 subscribers with the ability to send out 12,000 email monthly. We don’t get all the features from paid plans but this is a nice place to start our MailChimp journey. We will lack conversation-styled replies, some filter diagnostics, time-zone delivery, email client testing, and the Social Pro feature. Everything else is here, ready to aid us in expanding our brand.

Growing Business Plan

This one takes us a step up from the free version but boy, does it get better. The prices start at $25 for 1,000 subscribers and go up to $4,400 for the mind-blowing 1,000,000 subscribers – this leaves us at maximum email cap of 12,360,000 per month. The numbers are outstanding but the advanced features make it even juicier – report and segmentation options and Mandrill for sending targeted messages to unique individuals. It may not come cheap with all of the bonus features but it is definitely worth it.

Pro-Marketer Plan

We can upgrade any plan of use by paying $199/month more. This will land us the most advanced marketing goodies – multivariate testing (8 variants at max), advanced reporting, prioritized customer support, email delivery stop feature, and more.

Plan Price (per month)

Pro Marketer $199

Email Campaign Creation

Another excellent rookie option in MailChimp is the Send-to-Yourself option. We don’t need a set up contact list to try our email creation. We can simply send it to our own email and check how it looks. Once we enter the campaign info tab, we get to select social media settings, tracking options, reporting tools, and more. We can also easily merge tags to further customize our emails – the sky is the limit with MailChimp, and we are sure to recommend it to businesses of any size.

Choosing a template is also convenient with the service – we have 23 basic ones and hundreds of customized options to create the perfect email for our customers. Cross-industry and various occasions fall under the jurisdiction of the Chimp while we gather followers with each sent email. The email editor is a child’s game to use – text blocks, images, dividers, special buttons, social media icons, and more can be dragged and dropped with a simple move of the cursor.

Layout options are also a treat as every saved template can be used in the future without an issue. The AutoSave option is great too – every 20 seconds, we get an automatic backup of everything we have put into place. Finally, we can code our own templates via HTML, with the added possibility to add an already encoded HTML to our templates.

Tracking Campaign Performance

MailChimp has one of the most refined reporting sections out there. The stats scroll-down list lets us monitor top links rates and email performance in the first 24 hours after sending out the email. Most active subscribers are also visible, and the physical map display lets us see which regions of the world we have best covered. If you can think of any metric to be tracked, MailChimp has it under control!

Help and Support

Live Email support is available 24/7. MailChimp knows how to treat their customers and we can clearly see this. There is also a Live Chat option with working hours of 8 AM – 6 PM EST. Social Media and Knowledgeable Base are here, too, to complete the pack.

Conclusion

MailChimp is one of the best cloud-based eManagement services right now. They are quick, efficient, and have a lot of amazing tools at hand. We don’t see a reason not to try them as their excellence have been proven over the years and they don’t seem to be stopping anytime soon!
